Saxton’s etched plaques are reproduced by exposing a piece of film onto a photosensitive metal plate. This allows for reproduction of extremely fine detail.
Maximum etching size for a single sheet is 48″ x 144″. However, materials are purchased in the sheet sizes listed below. Contact Saxton’s for requirements that exceed these sizes or other metals. Unless noted, these are the available thicknesses for all materials.
- 1/16″ (.0625″)
- 1/8″ (.125″)
- 3/16″ (.1875″)
- 1/4″ (.250″)

- Commercial Bronze is a very close color match to our cast bronze alloy. When using etchings for mounting to a bronze plaque, we will automatically choose Commercial Bronze for the etched piece. If etchings and castings are being used together on the same project, specify Commercial Bronze.
- When Copper, Muntz Metal, Yellow Brass and Commercial Bronze are specified for exterior use, we recommend a polyurethane coating. For exterior applications that must stand the test of time, Saxton recommends etched stainless steel plaques or cast bronze plaques.
- Stainless Steel etchings are not protected by a clear coating and are ideal for exterior use. For exterior applications, Alloy 316 may be more resistant to corrosion in certain types of environments and is available as a special priced option.
